FORENSIC MEDICINE CONSULTING

ENTEK provides forensic medicine consultation in litigation involving occupational and environmental claim assertions of both property damage and bodily injury.

ENTEK forensic medicine experience includes chemical, physical, and biologic agents. Specific cases have involved benzene and other solvents, formaldehyde, polychlorinated biphenyls, lead, titanium compounds, radiation, asbestos, fiberglass, molds and fungi.

Medical Evaluation

ENTEK created a unique association of occupation medicine with architecture and engineering to assess and control asbestos in the structural environment. This early collaboration has evolved into a comprehensive support system of medical consultation in many areas of litigation. The ENTEK staff concerned with occupational medicine can review medical records, physician and surgical notes, radiological reports, pathology data, treatment plans and autopsy findings. Often a diagnosed medical condition can be successfully disputed, dismissing a damage claim.

Historical Exposure Assessment and Record Review

An injury may be caused from past occupational exposures. Environmental, regulatory, and occupational experience of ENTEK staff enables a comprehensive and detailed review of historical information regarding potential exposure, work practices, and personal protection to assist in risk assessments.

Multiple Defendants

When a number of defendants are named in a lawsuit, ENTEK can assist in determining the proportional contribution from specific exposures to disease risk. This can only be accomplished through effective and knowledgeable review of purchase records, material specifications and analytical data, plaintiff and co-worker depositions, OSHA inspection reports, and interviews.

Site Inspections

ENTEK can perform site inspections at worksites. ENTEK investigates and records the condition of worksites to determine the causes of possible contamination from equipment failures, air quality, noise, building materials, outside interferences and/or policies and procedures. ENTEK documents conditions through visual observation supported by photographs, video and sampling as required. This documentation provides the basis for expert medical opinion that may be necessary.

Medical Consultant

The primary source of medical and toxicological consultation to ENTEK is Robert N. Sawyer, MD. Dr. Sawyer is one of the leading experts on preventive and occupational medicine, industrial hygiene, and safety issues. As former head of the Yale University Department of Preventive and Occupational Medicine, Dr. Sawyer led the first asbestos abatement under maximum environmental and personnel protection. Dr. Sawyer has served as technical advisor to many organizations including the EPA and the National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS). He has extensive experience in developing toxic material control and personal protection programs. Dr. Sawyer has provided expert witness testimony to numerous private and industrial clients on a variety of occupational health and safety issues.

The Legal Expert System

Dr Sawyer and the ENTEK staff utilize a unique information and risk assessment process to condense and organize case information and quantitative product contribution to risk. This system has proven of great value in preparation for deposition and trial testimony.
